D.N. Sherard opened his law practice in Wheatland, Wyoming in 1949. The firm originally conducted a general practice including contract, property, corporate, probate and tort law, as well as defending clients and prosecuting in the criminal law arena.  The firm has represented a number of area clients for many years, including Wheatland REA (47 years), the Towns of Wheatland, LaGrange and Ft. Laramie (24 years), Basin Electric Power Cooperative (25 years) and Western Fuels Association, Inc. (22 years).

Founder D.N. Sherard also served eight years on the Wyoming Legislature, six years on the Wyoming Board of Pardon and Parole, and four years as Platte County Attorney.
 
In 1980, Stephen N. Sherard and Rex E. Johnson joined D.N.’s practice, creating the law firm of Sherard Sherard & Johnson. In 2011, Brian D. Artery joined the firm.
